Mother Nature Delays The Opening Of Major Grand Rapids Intersection
The reopening of the Fulton/Division intersection in downtown Grand Rapids has been delayed due to recent rain, which made the pavement too wet for necessary marking work.
Originally scheduled for completion on Thursday, the city now expects to finish the work by Saturday, weather permitting.

This intersection has been closed since July as part of a $5 million reconstruction project aimed at upgrading various utilities, including the replacement of a water main and power duct bank.
The project encountered significant delays when crews discovered old areaway walls beneath the surface while installing new traffic signal foundations.
This unexpected find required redesigning the signal foundations and additional excavation, pushing back the timeline for reopening the intersection, which was initially anticipated to be completed in October.
The ongoing construction work is part of a larger effort to enhance infrastructure along Division Avenue, with further closures expected in 2025 to complete surface reconstruction.

As someone who drives this way every day for work I hope and pray that everything goes as planned this work is finished this weekend.
I don't think I can stand one more day of taking detours to get to work in Grand Rapids.
