The Grand Rapids Police Department put a neighborhood on lockdown early Wednesday morning as they searched for a suspect.

WZZM-13 reports a neighborhood near Franklin Street and Union Avenue was put on lockdown after a traffic stop went a bit sideways.

Police pulled a car over in that area around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. As police initiated the stop the driver took off, and officers thought they heard a gunshot.

Police from surrounding communities, police dogs and tactical officers responded to the scene and tracked the driver down as he ran into a nearby house.

It was determined that police did not hear a gunshot, instead it was the driver's car backfiring.
