Grand Rapids Reveals First Look at New MLK Park Pool House
There’s nothing quite like summer in Grand Rapids, especially when it includes a visit to one of the city’s public pools or splash pads.
We’re pretty lucky to have access to so many public spaces to take kids (and ourselves) when it gets a little too hot to hang out in our backyards. And our pools in Grand Rapids also offer a fun and affordable way to make the most of the season.
(My son loves the splash pad at Garfield Park and, I can't wait to take him to the pool this summer!)
Now, one popular Grand Rapids park is getting a major upgrade.
The City of Grand Rapids recently gave residents a first look at the brand-new pool house under construction at MLK Jr. Park, and it’s an absolute beauty:
The outside is so nice, and easy to spot from across the park.
It looks practically brand new next to the pool itself.
You’ll be able to enjoy it soon, because it’s going to open when our pools open for the reason on June 6th. The new facility is set to be ready for the 2025 pool season, and the sneak peek we’re seeing on social media already has the community buzzing:
They say it will include Family changing rooms, barrier-free restrooms, lockers, as well as a staffed kiosk to help monitor the locker space and assist community members during pool hours.
The project is being built by Erhardt Construction, with design by Isaac V. Norris & Associates, and includes a range of thoughtful features aimed at making the pool experience more welcoming and accessible for everyone in Grand Rapids.

I can't wait to see it (and the inside) myself when the pool opens on June 6th. To find out more info about the pools in Grand Rapids, check out the GR Parks and Rec website.
