Happy Cat Café Nears 1,000th Adoption at 8th Anniversary Celebration
Happy Cat Café in downtown Grand Rapids has officially turned eight, and they’re celebrating with what they do best, finding furrrrever homes for cats in need here in West Michigan.
The beloved café (located at 447 Division Ave) kicked off their anniversary with a Birthday Bash on Aug. 17, and now they’ve launched Kitten Week, a time when even more furry friends than usual are waiting to meet their forever families.
The timing is no coincidence. Late summer is peak kitten season in West Michigan, when feral cats and unplanned litters put extra pressure on rescues and fosters.
To help meet the need, Happy Cat Café is filling its cat lounge with extra adoptable kittens in hopes of reaching a major milestone: its 1,000th adoption.
Since opening in 2017, the café has teamed up with Fig & Friends Animal Rescue and other partners to give hundreds of cats a second chance, and now they’re on the cusp of four digits.
Guests can celebrate alongside the kittens with themed drinks, limited-edition merchandise, and plenty of time in the cat lounge. And when I spoke with Kati who owns the cafe, her passion is unmatched saying she's also adopted three cats of her own (all with Super Mario themed names, which is adorable.)
Along with cuddles, the café menu features specialty coffee and tea lattes, shaken espresso, sparkling sodas, house-made lemonade, and green tea energy drinks.
Kitten Week runs through this weekend, and with each adoption, the café gets closer to its milestone moment.
For cat lovers in Grand Rapids, there may be no better time to stop by for a latte, some kitten cuddles, and maybe even a new best friend. And hey, maybe you can help them cross that finish line.
