Michigan Schools Dominate NCAA Hockey Regional

There were a few Michigan Schools in the men's college basketball tournament but there is no shortage of Michigan teams in the NCAA Men's Hockey tournament.

The road to the Frozen Four for the Michigan Wolverines is a lot better than the road that ended for the men's basketball team before the tournament even began. Michigan is set to play against North Dakota this Friday night after making it to the Frozen Four in 2023, but they are not the only team from Michigan that will be on the ice in the NCAA Hockey Men's DI Regional this weekend. The puck will drop at 8:30 p.m.

Michigan State is ranked number four in the NCAA Men's College Hockey tournament. The Spartans had one of their better seasons this year with an overall record of 24-9-3. The Sparties were also very strong in their division with a record of 16-6-2.

Michigan State will face off this Friday with another familiar team the Western Michigan Broncos. The Broncos finished up the season with a 21-15-1 record overall but didn't fair as well as State did in their conference with a record of 11-13-0. The Spartans vs Broncos could be one of the most exciting games in the tournament with both teams coming from Michigan. That game is this Friday at 5 p.m.

The fourth Michigan team to get on the ice this Friday in the tournament is Michigan Tech. The Huskies will have their hands full when they take on the number 1 seed Boston College in the early game this Friday that starts at 2 p.m. The Huskies had a pretty solid season with an overall record of 19-14 -6 with 12 of those wins in the conference. They lost 10 in the conference and two of their ties were in the conference as well. Just like in men's college basketball where anything can happen when a high seeded team meets a lower seeded team. It just show that Michigan hockey programs are strong when 4 colleges in the state are represented in the tournament of only 16 teams.

Michigan State Hockey Over The Years

Every Sweater Number in Detroit Red Wings History Worn Just Once (Or Not At All)

For whatever reason, these numbers have either been worn just once or never at all in the nearly 100-year history of Detroit Red Wings hockey, according to Hockey Reference.

(Hockey Reference suggests that No. 6 was only worn by Cummy Burton, which is incorrect as Larry Aurie wore the number first and the number is pseudo-retired. Such inaccuracies are difficult to narrow down, so where they can be corrected they will be.)
