Detroit's College Bowl Game Gets a New Name... Again

Detroit's annual college bowl game has gotten a new sponsor, and thus a new name, again.

The now-called GameAbove Sports Bowl, certified by the NCAA, began in the 2014 season and has recently transitioned from its former identity as the Quick Lane Bowl. After a decade of sponsorship from Ford Motor Company, GameAbove was announced as the new title sponsor on October 8, 2024.

Hosted at Detroit's Ford Field, this bowl game features a matchup between a bowl-eligible team from the Big Ten Conference and an opponent from the Mid-American Conference (MAC). It serves as a successor to the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, which last took place in 2013. Unlike its predecessor, which matched the eighth-place Big Ten team against the MAC champion, teams are now selected by conference representatives, enhancing competition.

With GameAbove’s support, the GameAbove Sports Bowl aims to revitalize the post-season experience for college football fans. Backed by the Detroit Lions, this game not only showcases emerging talent but also enriches the sports culture in Detroit.

According to the company's press release, the GameAbove Sports Bowl will be held on December 26th with a 2 pm kickoff.
