Grand Rapids radio legend Kevin Matthews has found a new home on the internet, and his latest idea will feature live music performances from a very strange place.

Kev, whose radio career spanned two cities, GR and Chicago, has been busy with new ideas online, and his new one is called 'Elevator A Go Go'.

The video series will feature regional and national music legends performing songs from an elevator shaft in an abandoned warehouse not far from Founder's Brewery downtown.

Kev is teaming up with Big Event Studios to record the videos, which launched today with a video of local blues singer Bobby Haggard performing a soulful acapella version William Dawson’s “Soon-Ah Will Be Done”.  Needless to say, the unique acoustics of an elevator shaft are nothing short of stunning.

Matthews told Local Spins that during the lockdown period, some of the artists will be performing via Skype or Face Time, but broadcast form the elevator.

“I have always been a fan of resources like ‘Jam in the Van’ or the ‘Tiny Desk’ series on NPR, saw this empty freight elevator and thought, ‘We can do something in here. ”
