The Detroit Lions have officially announced the hiring of New Orleans Saints assistant coach Dan Campbell as the team's new head coach on Wednesday morning.

Campbell will take over for interim coach Darrell Bevell (who replaced the fired Matt Patricia in November).  Campbell played for the Lions for three seasons in the 2000's.

He has never been a head coach before, other than the 12 games he coached the Miami Dolphins on an interim basis in 2015.

The Lions are expected to have a press conference on Wednesday where they will formally introduce Campbell, who reportedly gets a six-year deal to come to Detroit.
