Meet Rosie – Christine’s Pet of the Week!
If you're looking for a pet who's going to show you lots of love and add happiness to your life, Rosie is the girl for you!
Rosie is a sweet two-year-old 50 pound Pitbull mix with a beautiful brindle coat. She was transferred to the Humane Society of West Michigan from a shelter in the south a couple weeks ago and is ready for her forever home. Rosie will do well with any family, including children but keep in mind she is a bit bigger and has lots of energy, which may be a bit much for a young child.
Help the Humane Society of West Michigan win $5,000! The shelter is up for the money through Independent Bank's Investing in Communities Challenge. The contest gives $5,000 to the top 4 animal organizations around the state. Currently, the Humane Society of West Michigan is #4 so all the votes count. You have until 5 p.m. Thursday and can vote here.
The shelter is usually at capacity in the summer season but its also the time where they are in most need of donations so this money helps the shelter, the animals and serving West Michigan!
And with the Fourth of July approaching some important tips to keep in mind if you're a pet parent:
- Keep pets hydrated
- Make sure your pets have ID, tags with your correct contact info, microchip information up to date
- Keep alcohol, people food (grapes, avocado, chocolate), sunscreen, insect repellent, and citronella candles out of reach from your pet
- Keep your pets secure and inside during fireworks
- Always Ask! If you're going to someone else's house remember to always ask first if you can pet their dog, it's important to ask first and keep in mind that fireworks, visitors, etc. can be stressful for dogs and to pay attention to stress signals and modify your behavior accordingly
Finally, we are well into summer now and if you haven't signed your kid(s) up for summer camp at the Humane Society of W. MI yet, you still have time to do so! Camps go until August and different classes are available for different age groups. This is a way to get your kids out of the house and doing something this summer! Get more info here.
