Let's start with, you should never drink or smoke weed, and drive.  It's not safe for you or the innocent people you may run into. With that said, now through September 7th, police departments across the mitten state will be stepping up patrols, looking for impaired drivers.

WZZM talked with Michael L. Prince, Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP) director,

“The aim is to drastically reduce deaths and serious injuries caused by impaired driving. This should be a time for friends and family to enjoy the final days of summer. Impaired driving puts everyone at risk and is always unacceptable.”

Also in case you need it, WZZM reminds drivers that anyone with a Blood Alcohol Content or B.A.C. of .08 or higher is driving while intoxicated or under the influence, and will be arrested. But they also say that no matter your B.A.C., if the officer believes you're impaired, they can arrest you. Which means is you get pulled over and they believe you're high, you're going to be arrested because you're impaired behind the wheel, and Michigan is well known for having a zero-tolerance for driving while drugged, or drugged driving as WZZM puts it.

Definitely get a designated driver or use a ride-share program if you're planning to enjoy the last few weeks of summer with libations.  While it may not seem like a big deal to just jump behind the wheel if you've been drinking, besides accidentally killing someone, the fines if caught are huge. Typically a DUI or DWI charge cost upwards of $10,000 and that's usually just the court fine, plus all the fees of an attorney, jail time and cost, and towing costs make that real quick trip a true life changer.  Be safe.
