Duck Drama in Michigan as Two Fire Departments Respond to Rescues
The Fire Department is known for charging into burning buildings, rescuing crash victims, and responding to every kind of emergency imaginable.
But sometimes, their heroic duties take a duck turn.
In a recent Facebook post that melted hearts faster than a smores marshmallow over a campfire, the Grand Rapids Fire Department (GRFD) shared photos of firefighters carefully lifting a handful of baby ducks from a storm drain earlier this week.
The mother duck reportedly stood nearby, likely quacking directions and keeping an eye on her little ones as they were scooped out of danger one by one.
Thankfully thanks to their quick action, this mama and her babies are now out and safe. But, they weren’t the only fire department in West Michigan who had to waddle in and save the day.
The next day further south in West Michigan, Battle Creek Firefighters from engine one were called to Capital Avenue and Jackson Street to save 11 baby ducks and their mama.
As the city of Battle Creek said in the comments: What the duck!

This isn’t the first time firefighters have waded into storm drains for a duck mission, and it probably won’t be the last. Because while they’re trained to save people, sometimes their compassion extends to those with wings, webbed feet, and a whole lot of adorable fluff.
And maybe you could use a little pick me up: here are some of the great things the GRFD does in the community...
