Back in 2019 Lake Superior State University made history when it became the first school in the country to launch a cannabis chemistry program. Now they’re pulling another first as they launch a cannabis chemistry scholarship, according to WOODTV.
WOODTV says the cannabis chemistry program teaches students at LSSU how to “analyze cannabis-related compounds and contaminants.” And now students in that program have a chance to have some of their schooling covered as they pursue a cannabis chemistry degree. The annual scholarship was established by Steadfast Labs, which is based in Michigan and offers students $1,200 towards their degree.
The Dean of the College of Science and the Environment at LSSU, Dr. Steven Johnson, told WOODTV,
“We are very excited about this latest collaboration with Steadfast Labs. This donation not only continues our trendsetting ways in this vital new field but also makes our already affordable tuition even more reasonable.”
Dr. Johnson told WOODTV that steadfast Labs has shown commitment to the program from the start. Since the Cannabis Center of Excellence opened in 2019, representatives from the lab have taken tours and later helped with guest lectures for the students.
As Dr. Johnson continued in the WOODTV story,
“When our Cannabis Center of Excellence began operations, members from Steadfast Labs toured the facilities and conducted guest lectures for our students. By funding this scholarship, Steadfast Labs again demonstrates their commitment to supporting future chemists who will enter the workforce and provide public safety in the cannabis field.”
