No matter where you live in Michigan, there's always somewhere great to find a bite.

There are over 23,000 restaurants in the mitten state for you to choose from. While there are hundreds of chain locations of places you can find all over the country, amongst that number is a handful of hidden gems that your taste buds can't enjoy anywhere else.

So go ahead and break away from what you can find anywhere you go, and instead try some of these incredible unique to Michigan spots I've enjoyed in my travels across the mitten state.

Basalt
Eastown, Grand Rapids

Anytime someone visits Grand Rapids and asks for a great place to have breakfast, I immediately jump all over myself to send them to my favorite place to have breakfast tacos—Basalt. Steve and his staff are friendly, quick, and offer a Tex-Mex-inspired breakfast menu that is unlike anything you'll find in Michigan.

Taystee's Burgers
Multiple locations, Detroit Area

While they are generally located inside gas stations, don't let the lowkey nature of these burger spots fool you. Taystee's creations are some of the most beautifully crafted, juicy, and creative burgers you've ever had. Wanna get crazy? Try the Pizza Burger that comes loaded with Mozz sticks

GoodFellas Bagel Deli
Downtown, Lansing

I found this place thanks to social media, and while I don't have a lot of reasons to spend a morning in Lansing, I will go out of my way for these incredible breakfast bagel sandwiches. Big flavors, big selection, and a big miss if you don't try GoodFellas Bagel Deli ASAP.

One Stop Coney
Downtown, Grand Rapids

This family-owned coney spot has one of the most creative and hilarious social media presences that is only half as good as their incredibly creative menu, from standard coneys to Korean corndogs, all the way to my favorite beloved "chippy dippy dog" (think of those poolside snacks you had as a kid). Either way- One Stop Coney is one you can't miss the next time you're looking for lunch or dinner in downtown GR.

Roca
Downtown, Kalamazoo

Small plates and fancy drinks before you spend an evening enjoying the Kalamazoo Mall, is the perfect vibe. There are so many options like this in Michigan, but Roca's creative menu and insistence to allow people of all walks of life to enjoy, they're truly a treat to enjoy when you're in southwest Michigan.

Beer Church Brewing Co.
Downtown, New Buffalo

Most of these entries are food driven, but this location isn't just about what's on the menu-it's about getting to enjoy a locally made beer inside of a civil war era church. Not to mention they also have some great food for you to enjoy- including being Michigan's first Pizzeria Napoletana. Check out Beer Church Brewing Co. next time you're by the shore in New Buffalo
