The first break-in took place on October 31st. The suspects broke a rear window to gain entry while the homeowners were away.
Similar tactics were used in another home invasions on November 2nd and two more times on November 15th, all of which involved breaking windows and targeting homes situated near wooded areas or fields.
In one instance, a suspect entered through a second-story bathroom window.
How Do These Gangs Target Their Victims?
Police believe that the suspects conducted surveillance on the homes prior to the break-ins to ensure that no one was present.
They also utilized technology to jam Wi-Fi signals, which rendered security systems ineffective during the invasions.
What Are Police Doing About These Home Invasions?
Novi police have increased patrols in the affected neighborhoods and are urging residents to remain vigilant. They encourage homeowners to report any suspicious activity immediately and consider installing hard-wired security systems that are less vulnerable to jamming devices.
They also encourage homeowners planning extended absences to utilize a "Home Watch" program that notifies police of their absence for increased surveillance.
