Michigan Ranks Near The Bottom For Education In America
While I'm not longer in school, I can't help but think that I played a part in this bad news when it comes to Michigan and how we stack up against the rest of the country in education.
For me, it was a struggle to just get to school on time and do the homework. Somehow with lots of Saturday school and extra work, I was able to squeak out a 1.8 GPA and graduate from Howell High School.
I think they just wanted me out of the building and gave me a diploma so I wouldn't come back.
A report about education across America has found that Michigan is near the bottom of the class coming in at number 37 out of 50 states.
Michigan Ranks Near The Bottom For Education In America
Michigan found itself at number 37 out of all 50 states in the country when it comes to Educational ranking. U.S. News & World Report shared how they came up with the state educational rankings.
The quality of a community’s schools can be central to a family’s aspirations. And though public education has largely been a local matter for school boards and states that allocate most of schools’ funding, the federal government has played a large role for the past several decades. In evaluating the best states for education – one of eight categories driving the overall Best States rankings – U.S. News examined metrics tied to both higher education and the space from pre-kindergarten through high school.
As an adult, I look back and wish I had tried harder and applied myself, I wouldn't have been valedictorian of my class but I know I could have done better.
I hope that as a state we can focus more on improving our educational system and helping our kids be the very best that they can be.
