The Michigan State Police is recruiting for its next class, and they're looking to get the message out to women.

The next MSP class is scheduled to begin in June of 2016, and recruiters are holding a special women's recruiting seminar Saturday October 17 in Kalamazoo.

The free seminar will be held at Kalamazoo Valley Community College at 10 a.m. Recruiters are looking to get interested candidates acquainted with career opportunities with the Michigan State Police.

According to the press release, female troopers will be on hand to offer their insight on training, opportunities for women in law enforcement and lifestyle of a trooper. Those interested should expect one-on-one conversations with enlisted females, and should dress business casual.

If interested contact Sergeant Michele Sosinski at Sosinskim1@michigan.gov, to reserve your spot.

The minimum requirements to be considered for the 2016 class are good moral character, a U.S. citizen, 21 or older, high school diploma or G.E.D., good driving record, stable credit history and no felony convictions.

Troopers start out earning $44,000 a year while in the 21-week recruit school and get a $7,800 raise after their first year.
