Most new cars come with warranties that promise to cover parts and repairs for a certain number of miles or years.

But even a car that is brand new off the lot can still have major problems down the road, and when that happens, recalls are issued.

One of the biggest and most important recalls in recent years involves a number of popular cars driven around Michigan. These vehicles all have one thing in common: they have Takata airbags.

In late 2024 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a recall  for vehicles equipped with Takata airbags.

According to the NHTSA, 27 people have been killed and at least 400 people in the U.S. have been injured by exploding Takata air bag inflators.

The scary thing is that some of the vehicles involved in this urgent recall are over 20 years old, so it's possible that you or someone you know is driving around with these dangerous airbags and has no clue.
