It seems like these days there is a subscription service for everything.

You can have your dinner delivered to your home, nerdy toys for your desk, your outfits picked out for you and shipped to your porch, and even toys and treats for your dog or cat are an option.

But one Michigan woman realized that there was a hole in the pet subscription market that only her love of feathered friends could solve.

Amanda Strahle who is originally from Flint, decided to start Squawkbox, the subscription based service for birds in 2015. She said that when she was looking for a pet bird, lots of people were giving theirs up because of how hard it is to take care of them.

Most birds have the intelligence of a four or five year old child, making them harder to entertain and keep happy than say a puppy or kitten. And with limited options on pet store shelves for toys and treats, it's an even bigger challenge than some owners realize until it's too late.

That's why 80% of bird owners end up giving up their pet because they don't know how to keep them entertained.

In an interview, Amanda said  “One thing a lot of people might not realize is that parrots need toys to play with, and they’re supposed to destroy these toys, Every month, I send out a variety of toys, like chew toys and foraging toys, things they would mimic in nature.”

But after the uptick in bird ownership during the pandemic, Amanda and her service for the birds is on the rise, helping countless bird owners across the US with finding just what their bird needs without ever having to leave their house.

Subscribers can select their bird’s size and choose a plan. Included in each month’s box are four toys and one healthy treat, so it's not one size fits all: Squawk Box can help a variety of birds.

The service starts at $29.99 depending on your birds size, and you can see tons of testimonials from happy birds and their owners on her website.
