One Stop Coney Supporting Beijing Kitchen By Giving Away Free Hotdogs
Grand Rapid's own self-proclaimed "third best hot dog" maker, is one of my favorite places to eat. They're family-owned, and they really get to know their customers-
(I'll brag and say right after my son was born, they sent home an ice cream we didn't order with my husband who stopped by to get our dinner because 'new moms deserve ice cream')
In the spirit of their always kind and awesome ways, One Stop Coney posted on their Instagram that they would be helping another locally owned restaurant nearby by offering free food if you make the effort to eat there first.
Direct access to Beijing Kitchen on State Street has been blocked for weeks now, which is slowing down their business, and there is no end in sight. The construction in front of their business is expected to last another three months. To the owners of a local business, this improvement could make or break their budget.
When it's hard to get to a restaurant or business, people are less likely to go, saying they'll return when construction is complete. It's not a unique story this summer with the massive amount of improvements we're seeing on Michigan roadways, but it's still harmful to small businesses who can't afford weeks and weeks of foot traffic to disappear.
That's why the kind folks at One Stop Coney are doing what they can to help one of their favorite spots in town. They say if you eat at Beijing Kitchen during the State Street construction, they'll thank you with a free hot dog when you show a receipt.
This is exactly why I tell everyone that one of my favorite places in Grand Rapids is One Stop Coney. This family-owned business is offering something kind to help a neighbor in need, and it's not surprising to see- that's just how they do things.
Plus, this is just another reason to try the third-best hot dog in Grand Rapids: they're owned by first-best people.
