Grand Rapids’ New Romance Bookstore Had a Line Around the Block on Day One
In a time when local businesses in Grand Rapids seem to be closing faster than we’d like to see, it’s refreshing to see something entirely different:
A new bookstore opens its doors and then immediately sells out.
Jess and Sarah, the owners of Pages and Peonies, just opened their dreamy romance bookstore in Grand Rapids this past Saturday, and the turnout was nothing short of incredible.
Hundreds of eager readers lined up around the block to support the store’s grand opening, and by the end of the day, the shelves were nearly bare. They shared a video the next morning showing what (little) was left thanks to the support of the community:
It’s a powerful reminder that yes, not only are people are still reading. And even more than that, they’re showing up in full force to support new, women-owned businesses right here in Grand Rapids.
I was lucky to meet Sarah and Jess last week, and their passion for this is unmatched. Pages and Peonies is more than just a bookstore, it’s a love letter to romance. And Sarah herself is an author, which tells you she really has a passion for the genre.
Every title on the shelf is hand-picked, and the vibe is exactly what you’d expect: cozy, charming, and perfectly curated. Whether you’re a seasoned romance reader or just starting your love affair with ‘spicy novels’, it’s a space that feels welcoming and inclusive.
Even better? They offer a monthly book club for those who want to dive a little deeper into their reads—and connect with fellow book lovers in the process. It’s all part of Jess and Sarah’s vision to make Pages and Peonies not just a store, but a community.
