
Michigan Man Transforms Old Bike Parts into Life-Changing Prosthetics
Most people see old bike parts and think they should be thrown away in the garbage.
But one Michigan man has found a way to take these normally discarded pieces of bicycle equipment and turn them into something that can change people's everyday lives.
Ben Hogan works for Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw as a certified prosthetist and orthotist.

The Inspiration Behind the Innovation
He wanted to do something for the 9 out of 10 people across the world who need prosthetics but don't have access to them, so he came up so he came up with a unique idea to make that happen by recycling old bike parts.
Ben shared with WZZM 13 how he came up with the idea:
"A bicycle is already welded together to sustain human body weight, right? All I've done is alter it in such a way that now we sustain human body weight with a different configuration."
Ben has made two prosthetics so far using old bike parts.
These prosthetic legs were given to people who lost their leg below the knee.
Ben uses all kinds of tools to make these prosthetic including, drills, saws, sanders, hammers and grinders.
The finished product is absolutely mind-blowing.
