Steelcase and the Heart of West Michigan United Way are teaming up to offer free tax preparation for qualifying families on Tuesday.

It's going on at Steelcase's campus at 901 44th Street SE from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.

IRS-trained and certified volunteers will be there to help anyone with a household income of less than $55,000 per year. The event is part of the Kent County Tax Credit Coalition program.

The program utilizes about 200 volunteers each year -- ranging from Steelcase’s finance department to Grand Valley State University students, to local church groups.

Coalition often spend tax refunds locally for basic necessities such as food and clothing, home and car repairs, or medical treatment. Since 2002, the coalition's assistance has generated about $67 million in tax credits for more than 57,000 tax payers in Kent County.

You do not need an appointment to attend the free tax filing.
