Summertime Construction – Here’s What To Expect

Well, Winter is over and that means it's time for Michigan's longest season!  Construction season!  Yay!  Wait, we mean...  Boooo!

We put together a little cheat sheet for you so you are in the know about summer time construction in West Michigan.

In Grand Rapids:

• WB I-196 is CLOSED from Ottawa Ave. to US-131
  • Construction is scheduled through Labor Day.
  • The construction is focusing on rebuilding and widening the bridge over the Grand River.
  • Detour for through-traffic — stay on WB I-96 to SB US-131
• The Ionia Ave. on-ramp to WB I-196 is CLOSED
  • Detour — West on Michigan St. to Lane Ave. on the West Side, north to the Ford.
• SB US-131 ramp to EB I-196 is CLOSED
  • Construction is scheduled until mid-June.
  • Detour — take WB I-196 and turn around at Lane Ave.
• Night work — SB US-131 will be down to one lane from Ann St. to the I-196
  • Construction is scheduled from 9 pm to 5 am, Tuesday night through Saturday morning.
• NB US-131 ramp to WB I-196 is CLOSED
  • Construction is scheduled through Labor Day.
  • Detour — keep going to Leonard St. and turn around.
• Night work — Pearl St. on-ramp to NB US-131 is CLOSED
  • Construction is scheduled from 9 pm to 5 am, Tuesday night through Saturday morning.
• Scribner Ave. is CLOSED at the Ford, between Bridge St. and 4th St.
  • Construction is scheduled through Labor Day.

Northeast And East Side Of Grand Rapids:

• EB I-96 is down to one lane from Leonard St. to I-196
  • The left lane is closed, before the off-ramp.
• EB I-196 is down to one lane just before I-96
  • The left lane is closed.

Comstock Park:

• Lamoreaux Dr. is CLOSED between West River Dr. and Alpine Ave. (M-37)
  • Construction is scheduled through October, but the closure is only expected to last until June
  • The construction is focusing on water-main and gas-main replacement east of Bekinshire Dr.
  • From now until June, traffic will be detoured and then Lamoreaux Dr. will be down to one lane both ways from June to October for resurfacing.

Walker And Marne:

• I-96 between Alpine Ave. (M-37) and 16th Ave. is down to one lane
  • Construction is scheduled on mostly weekends and some nights through Memorial Day.
  • From Memorial Day to Labor Day, I-96 will be one lane both ways weekdays between 16th Ave. and 68th Ave.

Kelloggsville:

• WB 54th St. is down to one lane from Division Ave. to US-131
  • The right lane is closed
