Blink And You’ll Miss It! Have You Seen Grand Rapids’ Smallest Park?
If you live in Grand Rapids, you should consider yourself lucky because we have a beautiful city full of amazing green space.
From Meijer Gardens to our dozens of scenic parks, there is always something to see no matter what time of year it is. However, while walking in my neighborhood I came across what I thought might be the smallest park in the city. And if you don't know it's there, you could easily pass it every day and miss it.
Do You Know All 25 of These Things Michigan Is Famous For? ⬇️
Coming in at less than a half of an acre, Sundial Park at the corner of Cherry and College, is Grand Rapids' smallest park.
And we're pretty proud of this little patch of land. In fact, in 2023 when Spring Lake tried to open their own tiny park, GR Parks and Rec chimed in to let them know they would always be the OG small park creators in West Michigan.
We're also proud of our little space of heaven, that we've tagged it in Google Maps to let everyone know:
Why does this micro-park exist? Originally it was the home of a special sundial statue in honor of Grand Rapids' 16th Mayor, Moses Aldrich. The statue now lives at the John Ball Zoo, but you can still enjoy this green space that was created in its honor back in 1925.
So sure, you probably can't host a big event here, but it's pretty neat to find a little green space you can enjoy while you wander around the city.
