It's no secret that Grand Rapids is a city that loves art, from ArtPrize, one of the world's largest art competitions to the numerous murals around downtown Grand Rapids.

Well, on Wednesdays through April, you could actually take a free guided tour of the different public art and outdoor art murals around Grand Rapids on buildings, overpasses, utility boxes, and more with Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. and Grand Rapids Running Tours who partnered for the spring tours.

As their website reads,

These are murals - street and wall artworks.- painted by artists that celebrate beauty, calls to action, or tributes to heroes. The murals transform otherwise unnoticeable - or worse- blighted spaces into must-see, energizing attractions.

The walking tours are free and are broken into two parts, so one Wednesday you'll see half the tour and the next week you'll see the other half. There's also an evening tour that kicks off tonight and a mid-morning tour next week that meets at 10 am.   All the tours are free and start at Rosa Parks Circle and are first-come, first-serve.

The Miles of Murals Walking Tour schedule with Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. is,

  • Wednesday, April 7th - 6 pm, Miles of Murals Part One Walking Tour
  • Wednesday, April 14th - 10 am, Miles of Murals Part One Walking Tour
  • Wednesday, April 21st - 6 pm, Miles of Murals Part Two Walking Tour
  • Wednesday, April 28th - 10 am, Miles of Murals Part Two Walking Tour

As the Downtown Grand Rapids Inc post says, not all museums are inside,

Viewing these murals is a study in local history, community activism, and sheer expressions of creativity... art all the time!
