A flea market along 28th Street in Wyoming is shutting down.

According to a Facebook post from Wyoming Concerts in the Park, the 28th Street Flea Market's last day of operation will be July 28th. The public is encouraged to come out "as we say good-bye to a part of Wyoming, Michigan history."

According to Google reviews, the 28th Street Flea Market is open Saturdays and Sundays during the summer, with vendors selling yard tools, jewelry, dishes, household supplies, furniture, new and used clothing, fresh fruits and vegetables, and more.

I've attempted to find out how long the market at 1400 28th St SW has been in operation, and haven't come across a solid time frame yet.

Comments on the Facebook post seem to suggest the market has been around for at least 30 years.

--UPDATE: Wood TV 8 reports that the flea market opened in May 1970 "as way to make use of the drive-in property, which is still owned by Celebration Cinema."

As for what is planned for the space, according to Wood TV 8, a proposal for the 13-acre parcel has not been finalized, but the city is looking to put in a mixed-use development that includes affordable housing.

Have you visited the 28th Street Flea Market and are you sad to see it go?
