The Surprising Way ArtPrize Is Utilizing AI For This Year’s Festival
AI and its place in art has been a hot topic this year. Back in July, West Michigan's biggest art festival, ArtPrize made a very public statement that art created using AI wouldn't be a part of this year's event.
Many artists argue that AI is theft, because it sources other pieces of art made by others to create something new, which some consider theft of their content. Especially since AI currently has no way to create the artists it sources, and is frequently being used by companies and corporations to cut out paying artists for their hard work.

However- ArtPrize has found a unique way to use the technology to benefit the festival, without stealing from anyone's talent. This year inside the event's app, you can use AI to help you find some of the pieces you'll enjoy the most.
This year's ArtPrize event boasts an impressive 900+ pieces of art spread across 183 venues, which is a lot to take on and sort through. So, they've found a way to help you hone in on the pieces you'll want to see most during your visit.
Artprize announced they using an AI program called FlockX that uses artificial intelligence to get to know a visitor's true interests. The program will ask you questions about yourself and what you enjoy, which will eventually lead it to giving you a few suggestions of pieces it thinks you'll enjoy the most. That way if you aren't going to hit every venue, you can create a map of places to visit to get the most out of your time at ArtPrize 2024.
I personally hate the use of AI in most instances, but this is a perfect example of a way to use the technology without taking away jobs or personal touches. So, make sure you download the ArtPrize app and utilize the one acceptable use of AI to make the most of this year's festival.
One of my favorite things from ArtPrize in the past few years where the awesome hand-painted cars they did during the 2022 festival...
