One can may not seem like a big deal but they can add up fast.
Thankfully amazing volunteers get together to clean up our rivers each year.

Michigan has approximately 51,438 miles of river.

I'll give you a clue it's 215 miles long.
The longest river entirely within the state of Michigan is the Muskegon River.
It stretches approximately 215 miles from its source in Higgins Lake to its mouth at Muskegon Lake.
The Grand River is about 260 miles in length flowing from Jackson County to its outlet into Lake Michigan
The St. Joseph River, which forms part of the border between Michigan and Indiana and flows for approximately 206 miles
The Saginaw River, which connects Saginaw Bay to Lake Huron is about 22 miles long.
Volunteers Pulled Out 31,000lbs of Trash From Michigan Rivers
In 2023, volunteers with the Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps) program pulled more than 31,000 pounds of garbage from Michigan rivers and streams.
The Michigan Clean Water Corps (MiCorps) is a network of volunteer water quality monitoring programs in Michigan.
It was created through Michigan Executive Order #2003-15 to assist the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) in collecting and sharing water quality data for use in water resources management and protection programs
