You Won’t Believe The Cost of A Grand Hotel Rocking Chair
Mackinac Island isn't exactly known for being inexpensive. The prices you pay to enjoy their scenic walking tours, the butterfly house and even the cost of staying at the Grand Hotel are worth the truly unique experience this Northern Michigan island town offers.
Speaking of- If you've ever stayed at the Grand Hotel, you've probably seen (or enjoyed) the iconic white rocking chairs that line their porch.
They give you the opportunity to sit, relax and enjoy the slow paced lifestyle of one of the only places in the United States that exists without cars or the hustle and bustle we're all used to.
Maybe you've daydreamed of adding one of these memorable pieces of furniture to your own porch so you stare off into the middle distance and think about your next trip across Lake Huron to visit. Be prepared to shell out big cash to get your own, because they've recently put some up for sale.
How much does it cost to own a rocking chair from the Grand Hotel?
According to the Grand Hotel website, these chairs are marked at such a high price because they are the "finest, best built weatherproof rocking chair available anywhere in the world".
They also say that the reason they're so special is because all of the hardware on the chairs is exterior grade, the glue is non-water soluble (perfect to battle Michigan winters), the slats are cut to shape; not bent, and all construction is mortise and tenon.
And one of them will cost you... $699
Listen, I get that they're special. I also understand that they're extremely durable, weighing in at 300lbs. However, the chairs for sale on the Grand Hotel's website aren't the ones from the porch. They're just the same chairs, made new. So, it's basically an expensive replica.
I personally cannot fathom spending nearly $700 on a chair that is just a fancier painted version of the ones you sit in while waiting for your table at Cracker Barrel.
In fact, the one above is listed on the Cracker Barrel website for only $239. So, here's your chance to get a knockoff.
If FOMO has a stranglehold on you and you're still willing to pay to own one of the iconic rocking chairs from The Grand Hotel, I'm sad to say: they're sold out. However, I'm sure they'll eventually have another batch up for grabs eventually if you want to make this exotically expensive fever dream come true.
