University of Michigan Ranked As Top Public School In The US
A study reveals the top 1,000 universities from around the world, covering 80 different locations and according to the QS World University Rankings for 2021-22, The University of Michigan is tops. For the sixth year in a row, the school has been ranked as the top public university in the United States.
The QS World University rankings evaluates 1,300 universities on six metrics. They include:
- Academic reputation (40%)
- Employer reputation (10%)
- Faculty-to-student ratio (20%)
- Citations per faculty (20%)
- International faculty ratio (5%)
- International student ratio (5%)
Descending two spots from a year ago, UM ranked No. 23 overall among all public and private universities throughout the world. UM President Mark Schlissel’s commented on his website about the school's mission which is
to serve the people of Michigan and the world through preeminence in creating, communicating, preserving and applying knowledge, art and academic values, and in developing leaders and citizens who will challenge the present and enrich the future.
The University of Michigan spans 780 acres, which is made up of its Central and North campuses, two regional campuses, and a center in Detroit. Other public schools ranking on the list include the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, Los Angeles.
The QS World University Rankings looks at Michigan's clubs and societies too. They have more than 1,600 including engineering project teams, community service organizations, and charitable projects. The Michigan Marching Band is over 100 years old and has 350 student members, and other noted musical ensembles include the University of Michigan Men’s Glee Club, a men’s chorus with over 100 members.
