West Michigan Whitecaps Clinch First Playoff Spot in 7 Years
If it feels like it’s been a while since the West Michigan Whitecaps made a playoff run, that’s because unfortunately, it has.
But after an absolutely astonishing season, that drought is officially over. For the first time in seven years, the Whitecaps have clinched a spot in the postseason, and honestly, it couldn’t have come at a better time.
The team locked in their playoff berth as the winners of the 2025 Midwest League First-Half Eastern Division title after a massive 20–6 win over the Lansing Lugnuts on Friday night. That’s right, they got twenty runs. (That's one way to to show you're the best in the league right now.)
And that party carried on off the field too, with some very cheeky social media captions like this:
They also knew the moment was coming and celebrated by having shirts and champagne ready for the players
Who did only what we'd expect from them: had a blast.
Manager Tony Cappuccilli has been loud about how he couldn’t be prouder of his team, and not just because of the scoreboard.
“It’s unbelievable how hard these guys work every day,” he said in a statement. “It’s not just the product on the field that makes this group special – it’s the way they go about their business every day.”
Now, fans can start the countdown to playoff baseball in West Michigan. The Whitecaps are set to host a postseason game in the second week of September.
