The National Weather Service has issued multiple Winter Weather Advisories for Michigan's Lower Peninsula on New Year's Eve due to the chance of freezing rain and up to five inches of snow.

One Winter Weather Advisory runs from 8:00 a.m. to noon on New Year's Eve and covers the counties of Kent, Ottawa, Muskegon, Montcalm, Ionia, Clinton and Gratiot. Brief freezing rain is expected which could create dangerous driving conditions before temperatures warm and it turns to all rain. Ice accumulations are expected to amount to a light glaze.

A second Winter Weather Advisory includes the northern counties of Mason, Lake, Osceola, Clare, Oceana, Newaygo, Mecosta and Isabella. This advisory runs until 7:00 a.m. on New Year's Day and brings the chance of freezing rain, turning to a wintry mix, then finally 2 - 5 inches of snow.
