There are a couple of reasons to wear red this weekend...Pulaski Days and the Red Flannel Festival. It’s also the final Friday for the Food Trucks at Riverside Park. There’s theater, comedy, a chance to run on the runway at the airport, a Donut Fest, small trees and flowers, a Pumpkin Train, and an event for you and the dog.

Some activities include the kids, while others are more for the adults.

    General Casimir Pulaski was an American Revolutionary War Hero, who, as a Polish immigrant, born into a noble family sacrificed his life for the cause of liberty in America. General Pulaski was the father of the US Cavalry, a General second to none, and a man known throughout Europe for his bravery and perseverance in defending freedom. Pulaski Days was founded in 1973 as a way to support the local social clubs by sharing Polish culture with the entire Grand Rapids community. Many Polish Halls and Clubs will have events going on this weekend. The Pulaski Days Parade will be Saturday morning, starting at 11:00 am. The parade will go down Fulton St between Seward and Marion.Numerous floats, polka and marching bands, clowns and organizations help celebrate Grand Rapids Polish pride. Bring the whole family out to enjoy this great event.

    Red Flannel Festival

    Cost: Free Admission

    Put on your red and head to Northern Kent County for the 80th annual Red Flannel Festival. There will be carnival rides, a car show, food, contests, arts and crafts, entertainment and more. The Parade will be on Saturday at 3:00 pm.

    This is the final Food Truck Friday for 2019. It is set up off the Guild St. entrance, but will require less of a walk to the trucks.  All trucks in attendance take credit cards. Most trucks offer Vegan options and some Gluten Free option. The event is family friendly so bring a blanket and your pet, and enjoy the food and company.

    Want to run on and under a runway? Then this is a race for you! This is a truly unique experience.  Athletes will start by running through the tunnel that goes under the runway, then head out onto one of the major airport runways for a lightning fast 5K race! There will be awesome finishers medals, cool prizes and a first-class course!  The GRR Runway 5k is a must for your fall calendars (and your bucket list!) and is a great tune-up for your late season half and full marathons.

Also happening this weekend is Chrysanthemums & More!. This is an extensive chrysanthemum display showcasing thousands of flowering plants in both interior and exterior locations -- the largest of its kind in Michigan.

    The Famous Pumpkin Train

    This is a Fall tradition that is not to be missed! Passengers are entertained during the journey by the Grand Pumpkin, Scarecrow and Little Crow! A cast of wacky characters love to sing and dance for you. Each paid child's ticket includes a free, locally grown, good-sized Pumpkin that the kids can pick from our Pumpkin Patch at the end of the ride. 

    Children under 2 yrs ride free and also get a small size Pumpkin.

    Bark in the Dark

    Cost: $35 for adults, $10 for kids ages 5-17, and kids under 5 are free. Tickets are required for all people attending, whether or not they are participating in the run/walk portion 

    Bark in the Dark is back and better than ever! Featuring our signature glow-in-the-dark 5k and 1 mile fun run/walk for humans and pups alike! Don't want to run? Come for the fun! All attendees can enjoy a dog costume contest, pup-a-razzi photo booth, local beverages, face painting, balloon animals and more! Grab the whole family and head to Riverside Park for a night of fun! All proceeds will benefit Humane Society of West Michigan. HSWM is a 100% donor-funded organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals in West Michigan.
