Tragic Murder-suicide In Clyde Township Claims Mother And Son

A West Michigan woman and her son are dead after an apparent murder-suicide.

On Wednesday the Allegan County Sheriff's office sent deputies to a home on 56th Street south of 113th Avenue in Clyde Township for a mental health pickup order.

That's where law enforcement officials transport an individual to a mental health facility for involuntary evaluation.

The Allegan County Sheriff's office was sent out to pick up 42-year-old Elisha Mulcahey.

Unfortunately by the time they arrived to pick her up it was too late because according to police she shot her 10-year-old son and then turned the gun on herself.

Deputies knocked on the door and when nobody answered, they walked around the house.

When one of the deputies looked through a bedroom window they saw an unresponsive male subject with signs of trauma who was later identified as 10-year-old Daniel Baez.

After making their way into the home deputies confirmed that both Daniel and his mom Elisha were both dead from gunshot wounds in what is described as a murder-suicide.

The investigation is still ongoing but it appears that mental health might have played a role in this tragic event.

According to Wood TV, In a petition received by the Allegan County Probate Court, Mulcahey’s mother said she believed her daughter was at risk to harm herself or others. She asked the court to force her daughter to undergo mental health treatment, saying she refused to do it on her own.
