ArtPrize 2014: ‘The Scarlet Cord’ Raises Awareness of Human Trafficking [Video]
Pamela Alderman's "The Scarlet Cord" is at Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.
The ArtPrize entry helps to educate and raise awareness of the problem of human trafficking through multiple experiences inside of a 40-foot storage container.
"The Scarlet Cord" has been found in the public's Top 25 under the Installation category.
The US State Department reports that 800,000 people are trafficked against their will each year. 50% of those people are children.
"The Scarlet Cord" represents the bond that connects the children to their traffickers. Thousands of red string bracelets have been passed out to visitors at the exhibit to help raise awareness. Over 30,000 will be made available during ArtPrize.
Dozens of volunteers from Women at Risk, International have volunteered to support the project.
