Forget the Fancy Reservations, Try These Chill Valentine’s Day Spots in Grand Rapids
Let’s be honest—Valentine’s Day at the hottest restaurants can feel more like a stressful checklist than a romantic evening. Between the crowded tables, the inflated specialty menus, and the mad rush to secure a reservation- it’s easy to lose sight of the point: spending quality time with someone you love. That’s why opting for a less popular or unconventional spot around Grand Rapids can be a game-changer.
Think about it—a cozy café, a quiet diner, or even your favorite taco truck might not scream “Valentine’s Day” to others, but that’s the beauty of it. No crowds, no chaos, just you, your person, and a vibe that feels way more authentic. Plus, these places often have better prices, and you’re supporting small businesses that could use some extra love.

Here are some of my favorite spots where you can have a wonderful meal with your loved one, without dealing with a thousand other couples making googly eyes at each other.
Sidepiece
Wanna avoid the crowds while making an evening of Netflix and Chill that much better? Try Grand Rapid's newest high end munchie bodega, Sidepiece.
You can order ahead and pick up (along with the flowers) or have it delivered. Either way, they'll be fed and happy- and that's the first step to a great evening. (plus, this is the only way you're allowed to enjoy a side piece on Valentine's Day)
One Twenty Three Tavern
Planning to see a movie as a part of your romantic evening? Why not try the best place located inside Studio Park, One Twenty Three Tavern. They've got incredible burgers, salads and quick plates- plus you can grab a drink before (or after) your flick to keep the fun going.
Black Napkin
Another fantastic option for your home date night is Black Napkin. While they do have limited seating options, they have some of the greatest burgers Grand Rapids has to offer, and perfectly paired desserts to go along with them as well.
Jaku Sushi
There are more "trendy" spots you can get sushi around Grand Rapids, but Jaku is always my favorite. They have an incredible menu, friendly staff, and their cozy space really feels romantic. It's a perfect place for an off the beaten path date.
Martha's Pizza
Maybe a pizza is more of your love language. Why not try one of the best that Grand Rapids has to offer at Martha's? You can pick it up quickly at their counter, then run inside the grocery side and grab a slice of their incredible cheesecake and bottle of wine, which is a perfect night cap.
It’s not about where you go but who you’re with—and sometimes, the unexpected spots make the best memories. Why not try it this year?
