What Kind of Aid Was Michigan Seeking
Michigan’s appeal sought aid under three main programs:
Individual Assistance: This appeal would have helped residents with home and property losses and was denied.
Public Assistance: This appeal would have helped with repairs to damaged electrical infrastructure and was denied as well.
Hazard Mitigation Grant Program: This appeal would help with funds for projects reducing future risk and is still currently under review.
President Trump approved an earlier disaster declaration in July 2025, that authorization only covered limited emergency work and repairs, not assistance for homeowners or private utilities.
