Find Out How The FAA Computer Outage Is Affecting Your Grand Rapids Flights
UPDATE (8:50 AM): According to The FAA's Twitter,
"Normal air traffic operations are resuming gradually across the U.S. following an overnight outage to the Notice to Air Missions system that provides safety info to flight crews. The ground stop has been lifted. We continue to look into the cause of the initial problem"
UPDATE (8:46 AM): According to CNN,
"an airline source familiar with the situation tells CNN that they are hearing that information from the NOTAMS system is starting to flow, but that they want to ensure the stability of it."
If you are planning on flying anywhere in the country, you are probably incredibly frustrated.
You are probably wondering why your flight was delayed in the first place.
I am here to explain it to you.
Earlier this morning, the Federal Aviation Administration grounded flights across the United States.
According to NBC News, the organization
"ordered all domestic departures to be delayed until 9:00 AM ET to allow the agency to check safety information."
After grounding flights, the FAA said that they had experienced a computer outage that they are in the process of fixing.
In a statement, the FAA said,
"We are performing final validation checks and repopulating the system now. Operations across the National Airspace System are affected. We will provide frequent updates as we make progress."
The White House sent out a communication saying there is no evidence that this outage was because of a cyberattack but there will be a "full investigation" to look into what caused it.
As of now, roughly 3,578 flights in and out of the states were delayed and 397 have been canceled altogether.
This FAA situation is even affecting flights coming to and leaving from Grand Rapids.
