Have You Heard About The Grand Rapids Nice Neighbor Challenge?
Have you heard about the Grand Rapids Nice Neighbor Challenge?
If you haven't, it's probably because the idea just popped into my head.
I love taking care of my yard by mowing, weed whacking and creating nice edges.
There's something about seeing the before and after that makes me happy and gives me a great sense of pride.
Recently I've started mowing several of my neighbors yards.
One of them doesn't have any lawn care equipment, the other moved out and was becoming an eye sore.
A few weeks ago I noticed my neighbor Kathy whose retired dealing with a yard that was getting out of control so I decided to mow, weed whack and edge her yard too.

I'm not telling you about this to get a pat on the back, I'm sharing because I enjoy helping out my neighbors and it feels good to do something nice for someone else.
My neighbor Kathy saw what I had done and said that I was such a "nice neighbor" and for whatever reason it just popped into my head that I should put a challenge out to people in Grand Rapids and West Michigan.
What Is The Grand Rapids Nice Neighbor Challenge?
There are so many things you can do to be a nice neighbor.
Some ideas I can think of for the summer included:
- Mowing the grass
- Bringing in the mail
- Taking out the garbage & recycling
- Inviting them over for a meal or making them something
- Giving them a ride somewhere
- Cleaning up your neighborhood
Another thing you can do is simply strike up a conversation, especially if your neighbor is elderly or alone.
Let's see what we can do together with the Nice Neighbor Challenge.
If you do something please share it on social media using the hashtag #NiceNeighborChallenge
