Nothing says summer in Grand Haven quite like double fisting a pair of Pronto Pups from Grand Haven's favorite lakeside stand.

But, once the days of summer wind down, they close down for the season and we're out of luck until the next time Lake Michigan is worth swimming in again. Which sucks, because winter is already rough enough, not having access to one of my favorite snacks only makes it a little worse.

But, there is one glorious weekend a year when Pronto Pups opens the shudders, and gets us a quite literal "boat load" of Pronto Pups until they return in the summer. And we now know when we'll get to indulge.

What is a Pronto Pup?

A pronto pup is a style of handmade corndog, which is made with a flour base in the breading, similar to pancakes. Other corndogs tend to be made with a corn based batter, making them a little less sweet than a Pronto Pup.

According to Wikipedia, Pronto Pup was invented in Rockaway Beach, Oregon and is marketed as the original corn dog. They later became popular at fairs and amusement parks, eventually making their way to Grand Haven, where they've been served for over 75 summers.

When is Pronto Pup's Winter Weekend 2023?

If you're looking to get your fill of Pronto Pups, make sure you stop by January 19th - 22nd while they're open.

They announced on Facebook on Wednesday, January 11th that they plan to be open for the weekend of January 19-22nd, and that they expect favorable weather considering the time of year. They'll be open from 11 am - 8 pm, and they have a "boatload" of hotdogs ordered, and ready to go.

They plan to maintain their $1.75 price, still the same since 2005. But, they'll only be serving bottled water because their soda machine is still down for the season.

Grab your family and friends, and get your of this summertime treat to pretend like it's not 5 months until we go swimming in Lake Michigan again.
