Looking for a fun and meaningful way to spend an afternoon with your kids? Grab some markers, crayons, and paper bags to turn a simple craft into a heartfelt way to help children in need across West Michigan.

Kids’ Food Basket, a nonprofit dedicated to feeding children, is working toward a significant goal to provide decorated snack bags to brighten children’s days along with their meals—and they need your help.

This project is perfect for families looking to bond over a creative activity that also gives back. Start by setting up a crafting station with markers, crayons, and other decorations to transform plain bags into bright, cheerful designs.

Think rainbows, happy animals, flowers, and positive words to make each bag feel special. The best part? Your kids can add their unique touch to each bag, knowing that their designs will bring smiles to children who need it most. And right now, they're looking to gather 100,000 bags in the month of October, and they're SO CLOSE to their goal! So why not turn craft time into a little bit of doing some good time, too?

What’s allowed on the bags, and where can I drop them off?

To ensure every bag brings comfort and positivity, Kids’ Food Basket has a few simple guidelines: avoid writing names, phrases, or messages that could unintentionally exclude or single out any child. Instead, focus on universally uplifting symbols and images that any child would love to see. Bright colors, encouraging designs, and neutral yet joyful messages work best.

Once your bags are decorated, you can drop them off at one of Kids’ Food Basket’s locations, where they’ll be filled with snacks and delivered to kids in need across the area. (They have three locations: Muskegon, Kent County, and Ottawa / Allegan Counties)

Not only will your children learn the importance of giving back, but they’ll also get to express their creativity in a way that makes a difference. By turning an afternoon of crafts into an act of community support, your family can help Kids’ Food Basket reach their goal and bring joy to children all over West Michigan.
