Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a new Dad who has learned a lot of things over the last several months and I want to pass along some knowledge to you!

Each week I will be giving you some new tips for first-time parents and one spectacular Dad joke!  So let's get to the tips!

  1. Today’s first Daddy Tip is to always use proper lifting techniques.  And no, I don’t mean at the gym. I haven’t been to a gym since senior year in high school, so I have no idea how to properly lift weights.  But I do know when you pick up a baby or toddler you should always lift with your back in a twisting, jerking motion. Ha! Just kidding don’t ever do that.  Always lift with your legs by bending your hips and knees to a squatting position and then pull in the baby close and lift with your legs. When you have a baby in the 98th percentile of weight, you learn quickly how to properly lift her.  Also, you can be like my mom and start weight lifting to help get the strength you need.
  2. The next Daddy Tip is for fathers and mothers of little girls.  Buy those little girls some clothes with poofy shoulders or shoulder pads.  Sure, they went out of style in the 80s, but they are still insanely adorable on babies.  Britt got Charlotte a poofy shoulder shirt and it makes her looks 25 years older than she is.  When I pick her up from daycare, I feel like I’m picking up my daughter from some weird baby office and I pretend that she has been furiously typing out memos all day.  You can usually find baby shoulder pad clothes in the 1980s, or at Thrift Stores. Whichever is easier to get to.
  3. And the final Daddy Tip of the week is to round up all of your old unused diapers that your baby has grown out of, and all of the extra unopened formula you never needed and donate them to Connie and Fish Christmas Kids!  We are helping out foster kids in the area for Christmas and we need your help getting some baby items. Those unused diapers and unopened cans of formula will help new foster parents with the little ones they look after around the holidays.  You can find out how to donate on our website at MIX957GR.com.

And now it’s time for an awesome Dad Joke!

Q: Did you hear the rumor about butter?
A: Well, I’m not going to spread it!
