Lifting Weights, Hand Gestures, & Dad Jokes

Hi, I’m Steve and I’m a new Dad who has learned a lot of things over the last several months and I want to pass along some knowledge to you!

Each week I will be giving you some new tips for first-time parents and one spectacular Dad joke! So let's get to the tips!

The first daddy tip is for all of the new grandparents out there. When you have a baby like mine, who is in the 98th percentile for weight, it can be tough carrying her around for long periods of time. That’s why my mom started to lift weights so when she comes and visits she can hold Charlotte for more than just a few minutes. So, if you new grandparents can’t carry around two bowling balls worth of kid for that long, hit the weight room like my mom and you’ll be able to enjoy your cute chubby grandchild all the more!
The next tip is to teach your little one a bunch of different hand gestures in the first year. We just recently taught Charlotte to clap and to wave and it is hilarious to watch. It’s pretty easy to teach, you just start waving at them every time you say hello and clap every time they do something that you think is cute, funny, or cool. They are like little monkeys in the first year and will start to try to imitate you. Not only is it awesome to see as a parent, but Charlotte loves when people wave back, she just cracks up!
The final daddy tip of the week is to be constantly seeking out new dad jokes. Sure, Charlotte isn’t even one yet and doesn’t understand jokes, but I want to arm myself with as many as possible when she is old enough to get them. Here, let me try out a couple on you… Did you hear about the guy who invented knock knock jokes? He just won the “No-Bell” prize! Get it, because he knocked and didn’t ring the bell. Or, Why can’t you have nose 12 inches long? Because then it would be a foot! Get it, because the English unit of measurement for a foot is 12 inches. Oh, and be sure ask if they got it and then even if they did, explain it in the most mundane way possible.

And speaking of dad jokes, now it is time for an awesome one!

Q: Why did the coffee file a police report?
A: Because he got mugged!
