Why A New Bill in Michigan Could Change How You Cancel Subscriptions Forever
If you've ever tried to cancel a subscription you probably know how much of a hassle it can be sometimes.

I won't name any business, but I've had several experiences in my life of trying to cancel a membership or end a subscriptions where it felt like pulling teeth to just cancel.
One of the memberships I wanted to cancel required me to physically come in to their business to cancel in person.
Hopefully the headaches and frustrations that come with cancelling subscriptions will be coming to an end.
There is a proposed bill in the Michigan House, that is often referred to as the "click-to-cancel" bill.

This bill aims to amend the Michigan Consumer Protection Act to address issues with automatically renewing contracts and make it easier for consumers to cancel subscriptions.
The bill was introduced by Democratic Representative Abraham Aiyash with the goal to tackle what he calls "surprise subscriptions," where consumers are caught off guard by automatic renewals.
What The Click-To-Cancel Bill Would Do
The bill would focus on several things that would make canceling subscriptions easier for Michigan residents.
Easy Cancellation: It would require businesses to provide a clear and easy-to-use cancellation system.
Online Cancellation: For contracts that are done online, this bill would require that consumers have the option to cancel the contract exclusively online.
This would help deal with the frustrating practices that require people to call or go in person to cancel a subscription they signed up for digitally.
No Cancellation Fees: Businesses would be prohibited from charging an additional fee or penalty to cancel a contract at the end of the initial or renewal term, or at the end of a free trial or gift period.
Advance Notice: The bill would prevent a provider from automatically renewing a contract for more than two months without first providing the consumer with a written or electronic notice between 30 and 60 days before the contract is set to renew.
