The man in charge of keeping an eye on Michigan State University sports doctor, Larry Nassar, will now serve time in jail.

According to WOOD, former MSU dean, William Strampel, was sentenced by a judge Wednesday to serve one year in jail for his lack of duty and misconduct in office.

Strample was charged with sexually harassing students and his willingness to neglect keeping an eye on Nassar. Strample faced nearly 5 years in prison and got lucky with the one year sentence.

Strampel earned the title of first person charged after the Michigan attorney general began the investigation back in 2017. The Michigan attorney general looked specifically into how the university handled the many complaints in regarding Nassar, who did plead guilty to molesting patients and was found with child pornography.

Here is the statement made by Michigan AG Dana Nessel:

"Today's sentencing sends a resoundingly clear message to public officials: If you brandish your power to demean, insult, harass, objectify, and abuse women, you will be held accountable.

We appreciate the court's decision and commitment to ensuring justice in this case was served. While Mr. Strampel's sentence will never give back the years of pain and suffering his victims had to endure, the persistence of these courageous survivors made certain that he could no longer hide behind the title he once held to escape the reach of justice."
