If you are heading downtown and need to take Pearl Street near the Amway Grand, you may want to give yourself a few more minutes because the street is closed between Front and Campau avenues for the next several weeks.

According to WOOD, city officials have put roadblocks downtown Grand Rapids for construction renovations to the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel.

The city began the street closures at 6 p.m. on Sunday for a giant crane to be moved in for some facade work that needs to be completed on the hotel. The Amway is having more energy efficient materials and windows to replace the old face of the hotel.

If you plan on driving in that area of downtown, just simply follow the posted detours. Westbound vehicles will be routed onto Monroe Avenue to Michigan/Bridge streets to Mt. Vernon Avenue. Eastbound drivers will take Scribner Avenue to Michigan Street to Monroe Avenue.

Hotel guests will still have access to the parking ramp as well be able to cross the street but Amway Grand Plaza's turnaround on Pearl Street will be limited to vehicles entering from Monroe Avenue.

If you are planning on visiting the Grand Rapids Public Museum or the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum you will still be able to access them from Front Avenue.
