It's an interesting strategy that Lions fans hope doesn't pan out for them.
The Washington Commanders are getting ready to take on the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Saturday in a very interesting way...

On Tuesday, January 14, DC-area sports reporter JP Finlay was covering the Commanders' practices in the leadup to the NFC Divisional playoff game again the Lions.
He posted on X saying that the Commanders would be practicing outdoors on a chilly, 31-degree day.
But, why? Did the coaching staff for the Commanders not get the memo that the game will be played at Ford Field in Detroit - which is an enclosed, climate-controlled, dome?

Video of the practice was posted to X by another DC-area sports reporter, Ethan Cadeux.
Some commenters pointed out that the opposite of this strategy worked for the team the week prior - when they practiced indoors for their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (which was played outdoors.)
That Time Matt Patricia Made the Lions Practice in the Snow - Then Lost Three Indoor Games
Others pointed out that this move harkens back to former Lions coach Matt Patricia and the time that he had the Lions squad practice outside in the snow just before they went on a four-game indoor game streak (of which they lost three.) Editor's question - WHY WAS PATRICIA WEARING SHORTS?!?
The 15-2 Lions are favored in the matchup against the 12-5 Commanders, so maybe the coaching staff hopes that this will give Washington a competitive edge?
Whatever the reason, no amount of practice whether indoor or outdoor can prepare a team for the arsenal of trick plays that the Lions have up their sleeve. These are some of their best from over the years.
