West Michigan Roads Are a Mess This Morning After Multiple M-6 Crashes
If you stepped outside this morning and immediately questioned every life choice that required leaving your house, you’re not alone.
Roads across West Michigan are extremely slippery, and police are asking drivers to slow way down after a rough start to the Friday morning commute.
One of the biggest trouble spots was eastbound M-6, which was shut down for a time after a crash near Wilson Avenue SW in Grandville. The Michigan Department of Transportation said that crash was reported around 8:10 a.m., right as many people were heading to work or school. According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Office, that crash involved injuries, which is always the part of these mornings no one wants to hear.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t an isolated incident. Deputies say several other crashes and slide-offs happened along the same stretch of M-6 between Wilson Avenue and Byron Center Avenue. If you’ve driven that stretch in winter weather before, you already know how quickly things can go sideways, literally.
As of mid-morning, traffic does appear to be moving through the area again, according to MDOT’s drive map. But that doesn’t mean conditions have improved much. It just means people are inching along and doing their best.
Police across the area are reminding drivers to take extra care today. That means slowing down, leaving more space between cars, and assuming every bridge, ramp, and curve is slicker than it looks. If you can delay travel, even a little, this is one of those mornings where it might be worth it.
And if you’re already out there, take it easy. Getting there late is still better than not getting there at all.
