Let's face it, not many people had a chance to go on vacation in 2020. So, we figured that we could live vicariously through other's bad vacation stories for today's #TQOTD.

TEXT QUESTION OF THE DAY:
What bad thing happened on your vacation but it continued anyway?

  • ? Of dah day..... couple years ago went to Punta Cana to relax and enjoy myself with a radio station. This dude name FISH wanted me to hang out with them. Tried to show them respect and let them be. Then I carried on the rest of my vacation only to catch hell at the end of it for not hanging out with them. Dammmm . Haha I kid I kid
  • One of my relatives was bit by a rattle snake on vacation. After a couple days in the hospital, vacation continued.
  • What bad thing happened on vacation? We just went to Maui for vacation recently and I was supposed to have 5 friends join...only 1 of them was held at the airport in Maui and sent back home. She didn’t get the Covid test by one of their approved partners, so they wouldn’t let her leave the airport and put her on a plane back to the mainland 13 hours later. She would have had to get another test and pay for another plane ticket back, and it wasn’t worth it for the one week she was going to stay. We were all super bummed that she couldn’t be with us, but the vacation continued for the rest of us.
  • Vacation to Jamaica with my husband (now ex) two year old son and my parents. On the plane in GRR and my flip flop got caught when entering the row of seats to sit down. I twisted to sit but my leg did not. Dislocated my knee and my kneecap was on the side of my leg. I was asked if I wanted to get off the plane and I said no....pushed my knee back into place. The other people on the plane were mad because I took all the ice to put on my knee. Connecting flight said...oh you are the one. Couldn’t bend my knee to be able to sit in the aisle. Made it to Jamaica after carrying my son throughout the airport with luggage in tow while the ex took care of his own. Oh, and took care of our son the entire time trying to walk and carry a two year old on a beach.
  • 2nd burns on my fave during day 2 of senior spring break (because of a medication i was on) in Cancun! Had to get a steroid shot by a questionable Mexican doctor and basically covered myself in a shroud when it started peeling! My parents were responsible for all of the girls on the trip so we couldn’t leave early!
  • Surprised my husband for our 5th Anniversary with a trip to Cabo San Lucas. While getting our tickets to fly from L.A. to Cabo I told the person checking us in not to say where we were going as it was a surprise. A couple minutes later another airport worker walks by, looks at the computer and sees where we are heading. She goes...I hope you know a hurricane is heading towards Cabo! We decided to still go. They flew people into Cabo that day but were not flying anyone out. We spent 2 days of our 4 day weekend in our hotel room without running water and rain pouring in over the slider doors. One anniversary I will never forget. We are divorced now. Lol
  • At 16, I accidentally pulled the emergency alarm on a train in Paris. The train police wanted to arrest me bc they thought I was being a smart aleck American. My dad had to pay a huge fine. That same trip included the airline crashing the jetway into the wing of our plane (and us waiting hours for a new plane) and my brother throwing up all over a double decker bus in London. You can’t buy family memories like that.
  • Our Alitalia plane hit an air pocket over the Atlantic. We had to make Andersen you stop in Ireland to have medics take one of the passengers off. She had lifted in the air (no seatbelt on) and came down on an armrest — breaking ribs and possibly puncturing a lung. By the time we left Shannon Airport, we were going to be late for our bus connection from Milan to Venice — where we were taking a cruise around the Mediterranean. Luckily, the airline called ahead. The bus waited to hours for us. The cruise was amazing. We were a bit nervous about getting back on a plane to fly home....
  • Not exactly the same, but we were getting ready to leave San Francisco when the earthquake occurred in Japan sending a tsunami toward California. They weren’t sure of the potential damage, and seeing as the Bay Area is made up of a bunch of islands they were going to close down transportation. So we had to hurry up and get ready to make sure we could get to the airport before they shut down. Once we got up in the air, you could see the crazy waves down below!
  • I got bronchitis after snorkeling in Mexico. I could barely breathe, but we finished our vacation as planned because we spent so much on it.
  • Got a 2 flat tires and it was Sunday and NO tire stores were open, so slept in the vehicle until morning and the got them both fixed and went on our way
  • Lost my luggage going into Ixtapa and it was never found.
  • Tsunami warning and hotel evacuation in Kauai, Hawaii first night there.
  • Lost 1 shoe out in Lake Superior and my parents wouldnt go buy my new shoes til our way home good thing I was a tom boy back then but still!!!!!!!
  • Leaving Jamaica and plane engine catches fire. It's a holiday so no mechanics for 2 days. Husband becomes spokesman for the stranded passengers and get us all put up at hotels and we also were given temporary guardianship for two little girls who needed to get to Chicago (custody issue with divorced parents). Many new friends made the hard way. Oh the memories!
  • Pickpocketed in L’Viv, lost passport, 9 hour bus ride TI American Embassy in Kiev to replace.
  • Slipped in hotel shower on day one, landing outside tub onto hard tile floor. Could barely move and severely brusied...next morning we were to swim with dolphins which I had to watch my hubby and kids do and hubby got some severe stare downs from passers by when they saw one side of my body bruised so bad. It was a very long week to say the least. Most unejoyable vacation ever for me.
  • When I was a kid, my whole family went to New York, my dad had a travel bag that had his wallet, guide books, maps, etc...pre cell phones obliviously, and while we were eating lunch someone snatched it, cut the strap right off, in the middle of a restaurant. My grandparents had to wire us money so we could continue our trip. I had saved my allowance for 6 months too, it was in the bag.
  • My husband and I left for our honeymoon a few days after our wedding. There may have been a fifth that was passed around a few times at the wedding (I did not partake) anyways a few people ended up sick, my new husband one of them after we had already flown to CA. By the time we were 3 days into our 10 day Pacific Coast Hwy trip I had to find the guy an urgent care for steroids, antibiotics, fluids, you name it. To this day, the sickest I have seen him. He was so miserable I think he slept half of the gorgeous drive for the next day or two. I do believe I consumed two or three times more Airborne and echinacea than what is recommended. I did NOT get sick and it was a decent trip once all of his prescriptions kicked in
  • A huge hawk flew into my windshield. Looked like a bowling ball hit it. I left the car at the nearest town. The local car guy replaced the windshield while I loaded my daughter and I up into my bfs overloaded van.
  • His parents were following us up a few days later. They picked up my car and brought it along.
  • I was attacked by a horse on Mackinac island. It threw me off and trampled me. I had a concussion and bruises. Continued to try to finish our vacation but I was in rough shape . Found out a few weeks later they put the horse down for attacking people.
  • I caught what I assume was Norovirus on a cruise thankfully it was the last day, but it made disembarking that much more fun
  • Went on vacation to see my grandparents in Alabama with my mom, toddler son and toddler nephew. Both kids got hand foot mouth virus, I got sick, and my car broke down. Had to get it fixed before we could come home, which took a day longer than we had planned. No way home, so no choice but to continue our vacation.
  • The two times I have been to Mexico I have gotten montezuma’s revenge by day 3. It thankfully only lasts about 24 hours but those 24 hours are pure hell. It’s just the price I have to pay to eat all the fresh guacamole I can get my hands on!
  • Holy crap people. Connie and Fish listeners travel to very nice places. Geez. Our family is either poor or lame.
  • Let me tell you a tale from my honeymoon. I forgot my birth control at home. We went to Jamaica. Then my insulin pump had a crack in it ruining it's waterproofness. I went swimming. The next day my pump stopped working. So we had to bike to the ATM to get more money to buy syringes so I could still take my insulin and not die. But in the plus side that trip to the pharmacy found us some condoms.
  • 14 years old throwing up all over the streets of London for a week straight. We were there for 8 days. Smh
  • On my way out the door to take my first flight to Europe and I tripped over a piece of furniture. I knew it hurt. I thought I just stubbed my toe. When the pain didn't go away during the flight, I was worried I might have broken a toe! Since it was my first international flight and heard your feet swell up so don't take your shoes off, it wasn't until I landed in Berlin that I saw I had broken three toes! I limped for two days all over Berlin because I couldn't put any pressure on them --it hurt too much. Then my calf hurt for the next couple of days from limping. Ugh!
  • My best friend got married in Florida and I planned this huge trip for my then boyfriend to come with, the morning that we were supposed to leave he told me he never got the time off of work (aka he never asked) and we got into a huge fight. I still had to drive down because I’m the maid of honor. My mom insisted on going so I wasn’t “driving alone” and had to share my vacation with my mom while heart broken/ pissed at the same time.
  • First 4 hours of vacation, I broke my foot. The hospital in St Ignace is lovely btw.
  • Went to Gatlinburg, TN. Got to the house to unpack, forgot all my shirts. Later a mouse run out from under the fridge while cooking dinner. We had to grill dinner because the oven was broken. The next day their was a storm and a tree fell blocking the road back to our cabin and knocking the power out. We couldn't get back until 1130 that night. Oh and lost/left my phone in one of the shops in town, but was able to get it the next day. It was a crazy trip, but memorable too.
  • in 1999 (pre cell phone and digital camera era), after 3 weeks in Europe I packed my carry on backpack with all the essentials I wanted to make sure I didn't loose the next day when I checked my luggage (passport, license, all cash both US and French, credit cards, bank cards, paper airplane ticket, checkbook and 14 rolls of film). Went out for one last day in Paris and the backpack was stolen. I was in the middle of Paris with no identification, no passport, no money or way to access money and no plane ticket home. I had to go to the American Embassy where my friend had to sign an affidavit to my identity. When I realized we didn't even have enough money scraped together to buy a new passport, I wound up crying so hard 2 strangers took pity on me and bought it for me. We then had to go and sit overnight in the airport to prevent the thieves from attempting to cash in my ticket and go someplace else with the proceeds.
  • Hurricane- Hilton Head Island.
  • I got a double ear infection after swimming and had to go to the doctor because I couldn’t hear anything. It was a great time.
  • My mom broke her leg on day 1 of a week in Mexico. Went to the pharmacia and got medicine, paired with tequila she limped around for the week and went to the Dr when we got home
  • Well...2 years ago we were in Florida for Spring break and my son had a emergency appendectomy on Easter Sunday!
  • Hit a deer with our car on the way to our honeymoon destination, cracked the radiator and we were far from home. So we had to sleep in the car overnight and find a body shop in the morning and got a rental car to get the rest of the way. Stopped for the car on the way back home.
  • So we took a repositioning cruise from the Bahamas to New York, my mom was coming with us before we left she got third degree burns on her leg. No problem her Dr. gave her special bandages so she could still go swimming, snorkeling and anything else she wanted to do. We were staying a couple of days at the Atlantis hotel on Paradise Island before the cruise. We went to go swimming and put the bandages on our mom, by the time we were done and back to the room we knew something was wrong. Our mom had an allergic reaction to the bandages over her burn and now the bandage was fused with her burned skin. The Dr and pharmacists in the Bahamas were wonderful and had everything we need delivered to the hotel. We got her cleaned up and new gauze bandages and continued on to the cruise, she just couldn’t get her leg wet and the cruise ship gave her a cane to use on the trip. The rest of the vacation was great.
  • We went to Fiji for our honeymoon. Day 2 got massively sunburnt and lost my wedding ring to the bottom of the ocean. A week later I got a stomach bug (both ends) which meant I was stuck in the hotel room within reach of a restroom for the day. Good news is it was the World cup cricket final, so I parked in front of the TV for the day. Never thought I'd pull that one off on my honeymoon!
  • Hurricane Irma
  • A few summers ago I had packed up this white box full of very essential items for our camping trip, batteries, bug spray booze, (to much to list) when we were unpacking I could not find it. I tore the camper apart and never found it. When we got home that stupid white box was still on the front porch. No one put it in the camper. When ever something is missing while camping we blame it on the "stupid white box".
  • Went on a 7 day cruise for my birthday with my hubby, my nest friend and her hubby. Due to weather (February), our flight was delayed a s we missed our connecting flight. Ended up staying in a hotel and was on stand by. Finally caught a flight, got to florida, and went to get our luggage which the airline emailed was in their possession. They gave us my husband's luggage, but mine was stolen. 7 days of clothes, toiletries, new formal dress, and a brand new suitcase and so on. We ended up taking our excursion money and our cab driver graciously drove us to the nearest store (Walmart). We took 20 minutes and made a mad dash to get me clothes for our cruise. I was so upset. But the cruise turned out wonderfully and we had an amazing time.
  • My husband got a bad case of food poisoning on our first vacation out of the states. We were in Jamaica, I was worried we were going to have to go to a hospital. Minus that 12-24 hour mess it was a great vacation
  • What is this vacation thing of which you speak?
  • Fell and broke my two fingers so badly they were going the wrong direction. had to have reconstructive surgery and miss four months of work.
  • I got 2 toes broken at work the day before i was to fly out but did it..lol
  • Jelly fish sting to the nipple...hurt like a mother effer, but no real damage
  • Eaten alive by flies
  • Worst trip.... We went on a 5 day cruise for our honeymoon. Our plane was diverted to Alabama on our way to Florida because of fog. We had to sit on the runway there for over 2 hours. When we finally got to our layover, the connecting flight had already left. We missed the ship and had to spend the night in Florida and then take a flight to Grand Cayman Island, got there at dark, got a hotel real quick and fast food. Went to sleep and got up early to meet the ship at port. Finally got on the ship and found our room then had to get right back off for an excursion. Two hours later we finally got to relax back in the ship forthe last 2 and 1/2 days.
  • TQOTD: Bad thing that happened on vacation? We were on vacation in Cancun with another family. My husband and I were in one of the pools with a swim up bar with our kids. My husband and I were both given tainted alcohol. My husband blacked out and doesn’t remember around 12 hours. I remember everything but was unable to talk or control myself. If our friends hadn’t come up from the beach and found us, I don’t know what would have happened. They got us to our room and watched our kids for the rest of the night. It was a nightmare. Finished our vacation (not drinking) and haven’t gone back to Mexico since.
  • I went to Jamaica with my buddy years ago. We were at the beach drinking and getting some sun. Well I put sunscreen on my whole body but for some reason I didn't put any on my legs. Needless to say I got burnt so bad on my legs that they blistered up. This was the 2nd day of the vacation. It sucked but I kept drinking! To this day I burnt my legs so bad that I barely have any hair that grows on them. Lol
  • I was on a cruise and fell down some stairs. I rolled both my ankles and hit my head. Had to visit the ship infirmary and had x-rays taken. I had severely sprained my right foot and sprained my left ankle as well. It was our 2nd to last day so I was only laid up for the last day.
  • TQOTD: Family vacation out of state for the week when I was in college. The first morning we woke up early to a phone call from my roommate that a friend had been shot and killed. Too far away to make it home for the funeral. Tragic. I tried really hard not to ruin the whole vaca, but looking back at photos is still painful 20+ years later.
  • #Tqotd My siblings and i were on a vacation with my dad and his girlfriend and her kids. When they got into a huge fight the day before we left and broke up. we spent the rest of that day and the last day completely separated from them. Different rides to the airport and back to our homes.
  • While on vacation with my husband and his family, my husband and his brother were throwing a frisbee on the beach with each other. My husband then ran to catch the frisbee. While doing so, he wasn't paying any attention, and ran armpit first into a rusty, metal sign whose corner was bent over. My husband and his parents went to the closest urgent care for a tetanus shot and stitches while my husband's brother and I stayed at the beach. I had to help my husband wash his armpit for the entire trip.
  • March 12th this year landed in Orlando for my daughters first time at Disney ever, week at the resort. On the car ride from the airport the radio announced Disney was closing due to covid! Daughter bawling etc. thank goodness my parents stay there for winter so hung out at the pool for a week until that closed. And now it’s December.....
  • Earthquake (7.7 ) the day of my wedding in Jamaica!!!! 1_28_2020!!!!! Beast day ever!
  • Vacation story: I booked one of those all inclusive "couples" trips to the Dominican a few years back, cheap and last min Got down there to check in -alone, single and my friends are losers and no one could go, they were going to add all these fees and such, cause it was a couples deal, so I just started carrying on, wailing obnoxiously, slapping the counter, nearly on my knees about how everyone said I should still go and my fiancé ran off with HER, supposed to be honeymooning and now this counter chick has just broken my heart all over again. Made a SCENE!! Ended up with huge discounts and upgraded from a standard room to private cottage on the beach. Top notch everything!! Plus much manly attention all working hard to mend my broken heart. Epic week !!!
