Go back to a time in your life (could be yesterday) where you completely cheaped out.  How did you do it?  Give us the dirt!

TEXT QUESTION OF THE DAY:
What is the cheapest thing you have ever done?

  • Speaking of cheap, our neighbors illegally dump their trash at the park and refuse to turn on their air conditioner when it's 95 degrees outside so they come to our house
  • I wasn't going to play....but then you got me thinking...,cheapest thing I have done, and still do, is save ziploc bags. My kids are long gone & now it drives my husband crazy when I make him wash them. Ps...I'm also a tab picker-upper....but can't throw a plastic baggie until it's had a couple good uses....
  • TQOTD.. Have done and still do. Smuggle our own snacks into the movie theater. I've made cookies, brownies, popcorn or buy candy at the dollar store and cram it into my giant purse. If it's a solo or date movie, I will have awesome theater popcorn.
  • Cheapest? Or Genius? Best Buy let me purchase a scanner which would take my dad's old slides and convert them to digital prints. I asked if I used it and finished scanning my dad's slides if I could return it (within their 30 day limit) and they said yes. So, I scanned about a 100 slides every day for a month. Least amount of money I ever spent on a Christmas gift (zero) and the most priceless gift ever.
  • Bought a $10 toaster at Walmart in Hawaii to make our own bagels in the hotel room. Bought food at Costco and saved a ton!
  • It’s a tie...I’ve wrapped one of our platters and used it as a wedding gift and second, I bought a pan to make Texas sheet cake. I made the cake but didn’t like the way it turned out so I washed the pan and returned it to the store.
  • The clothes line we janitors hang our cleaning rags on was too small and had buckets of waste sitting under them waiting to be disposed of over Spring Break, so I made a really big one in the gymnasium out of a length of rope and some hooks in the walls.
  • have my toddlers a glass of water, paint brush and construction paper. The water makes it darker so they see they are doing something. I didn’t do it because it’s cheap although it is SIPER cheap, but there’s no mess with paint. They were 2 or 3, they did’t care.
  • I never throw out soap that has been used down to a sliver, I always stick it onto the new bar.
  • About once every 6-8 months I threaten to cancel my Cable account so I get a free month or two from them or they drop my bill down a bit. Not sure if that’s cheap, but it saves me money.
  • I live the cheap life! Wait maybe it's the broke life?? I get called cheap all the time! Lol
  • Reused a paper plate
  • I try to go 45mph on the highway to save gas before pay day I might be wrong I do save miles lol
  • Held a catalytic converter together with a beer can and chewing gum
  • Washed plastic silverware/cups
  • Made my kids use a Frisbey as a plate to save $ so we could afford to buy the sugar to add to the kool-aid.
  • Everything I do is cheap.
  • My roommate haggles everywhere she goes. ‍♂️
  • I would get extra and then squeeze ketchup packets into a bottle
  • The cheapest thing I've done.... My ex.
  • #tqotd.....I pick up pennies even when they are not heads up!
  • My Aunt use to make us save plastic silverware so she could was it and use it agian for the fallowing year! .....So me being me ,,,, would stand over a trash can with my fork and yell" Hey Aunt Rosê" drop the fork into the trash. Haha she would have a fit
  • I bought a suit case at Goodwill. With great pride I showed my son my purchase. My point to him was that you can live well cheaply, his response to me was "Good going mom you took a good suitcase away from the poor people."
  • I'm like Connie. Never cheap. My friend and his family though?... His mom washes her red solo cups!!!
  • I wanted a new mattress that cost $3000 but I’m so cheap that it took me three years to actually give up my money for it even though I had it saved. I managed to talk my way into getting two sets of sheets, one pillow, and one blanket, totaling $450 all for free. So satisfying!
  • The cheapest thing I've ever done is lie about my kid being in 4tg grade when we were on vacation so I could get the free park pass that Michelle Obama started
  • Tqotd- The summer between my freshman and sophomore year in college i was BROKE.... I was paying 700 a month for a studio apartment with no cable, internet, or air conditioning. I would walk to a little cafe down the street, order nothing but an ice tea... sit in their bought air... use their expensive wifi... and a few times i took a roll of toilet paper on the way out. # im sorryyy # you shoulda locked up that paper
  • Omg! #tqotd I had to take 4 semesters of a language to get my college degree. Waited until I was a junior to start so only 2 languages ft my scheduled-Russian and hebrew. I took hebrew because the book was only 16 and the Russian textbook was 89 #cheapcollegestudent
  • I don’t think I’ve done anything super cheap but my family is SUPER Dutch. Especially my mother. She’ll buy something and then if it’s cheaper later she’ll buy it again and then return that item with the first receipt. The best part though, half the time she never brings it back so now she’ll have two of the same thing she doesn’t need
  • I dont know if it's cheap or just being broke or both, but I often stole toilet paper from my college's bathrooms
  • A fellow nurse that I worked with ate the same thing every day, turkey sandwich and yogurt. He used the same brown bag and ziploc bag until it was so wore out it could not be used anymore! Sent from my iPhone
  • I'm cheap, qualified for Nationals with horses, and slept in my car, and ate put of a cooler for the week.
  • Went to the $4 movie showing with my Aunt who snuggled in old pop corn buckets, and pop cups in her purse I was young, and broke ‍♀️
  • Not me but my mom washes out sandwiche baggies & reuses them
  • I used to wash ziploc bags and reuse. I refuse paper plates if only used for a sandwich and nothing spilled on it. I stand bottles of liquids on their top so I get every single drop. I have a squeeze thing on my toothpaste so I get every little bit. :)
  • Not me but a friend’s parents: when the toothpaste tube appeared empty, slice open the side, open the tube, and scrape off all the toothpaste you can for another one or two days.
  • I use my boyfriends deodorant when he's not looking. Haven't bought my own in 3 years!
  • TQOTD: The cheapest thing Ive done that I STILL remember and feel awful for...was giving friends "Christmas gifts" out of stuff I could make or find in my house. I gave someone hand carved soap with nail polish painted on it. Shoot, I gave someone a shovel handle and felt bad enough to give them a picture I drew in 7th grade instead... Who even gives a person a shovel handle?! If I ever dare be cheap like that again, I'll just get candy from the dollar store, less humiliating
  • I signed up for birthday rewards for every restaurant in the area. I have 3 emails so I used 3 different birthdays! Free food!!!! Brandy
  • At work they threw the small bit of toilet paper away to put a full roll on. I dug it out (just paper towels) and took it home. Waste not, want not.
  • Tqotd: I bought a pair of shorts at a thrift store for $.50 and found $.54 in the pocket! It was a huge score! Haha
  • Back in the day, my parents would take us to the theater complex for the day. They would pack a bunch of snacks and drinks and we would buy a ticket for one movie and stay at the theater and see three or four different movies for the whole day. The other thing my mother would do when I was little was when we are driving cross-country from California to Michigan we would stop in Las Vegas. We would go to a super cheap Buffet where everybody got a huge ham steak for $2. She would pack those up in the cooler and then that would be what we would eat on our road trip
  • I know someone who would take popcorn and drink cup out of trash at the movies. Only paid for refills
  • My sister in-law is so cheap that she regifted a wedding gift back to the same person at her wedding
  • Back in The day I was Janne my proof of insurance… And I would keep it on my computer and every six months I would just change the date and print me off a new one instead of paying my insurance I also did it for my children and my father… So we could get our tags for the car and truck
  • The cheapest thing I've ever done was use tape (like the material arm casts are made out of) to fix a steel pipe in my basement. I did it almost two years ago and it's still good to go. Adapt, improvise, and overcome.
